Write to support@sorttype.app and you will hear back from a person, usually within two working days.

It helps if you mention which platform you are on (Mac or iPhone/iPad), the version of the app, and what you were doing when the problem appeared. If a particular font is misbehaving, say which glyph.

Common questions

I bought the Mac app. Do I have to buy the iOS app too?

They are separate purchases, because they are sold through different channels: the iOS version through the App Store, the Mac version directly. Your fonts, however, are not separate: everything syncs through your own iCloud storage, and the version you have not bought still opens, edits and syncs every font you already own. What it will not do is create additional new fonts or export the Pro formats.

What does the free version include?

One font, and the whole editor: drawing, spacing, kerning, and export to TrueType, OpenType, WOFF and the HTML preview. The exported file is complete and installable. It simply carries a “Trial” suffix in its family name, so it is not meant for release. Variable fonts, colour fonts, the sprite atlas and BDF need a licence.

I already have several fonts. Will the free version lock them?

No. The limit applies to creating a new font, never to keeping one. Existing fonts stay open and editable, and anything arriving from iCloud stays available. It is already yours.

My fonts are not syncing between devices

Check three things, in this order: that you are signed in to iCloud in your system settings; that “Sync with iCloud” is switched on in the app’s settings; and that both devices use the same Apple Account. Syncing runs when the app starts and when you ask for it. It is not a live push, so a change on one device may need a refresh on the other.

I lost my licence key

Write to support@sorttype.app with the email address you used at purchase, and you will get it again. For the iOS version there is no key at all: open Settings → Purchase → “Restore purchase” in the app, which asks the App Store for your existing purchase. If you have not bought a licence yet, it is on the buy page.

Can I use fonts I make commercially?

Yes. Fonts you draw are entirely yours, and there is no royalty and no attribution requirement. Only exports made without a licence are marked as trial versions and are not meant for release.

A file will not open, or a font looks broken

The app can repair damaged project files, and recovery is never behind the paywall. If the built-in repair does not help, send the .sorttype file along. It is plain JSON, so it is usually possible to see what went wrong.
